Newport Beach, CA -- In case you missed it, the Republican Party of Orange County held an early endorsement meeting to endorse candidates. One election in particular stood out as a priority for the Republican Party of Orange County, as they united behind Assemblywoman Diane Dixon in the election for the Orange County Board of Supervisors 5th District.
In their announcement press release, Chairman Will O’Neill stated:
“Every day that Democrat Katrina Foley holds office is a day closer to turning Orange County into Los Angeles. Foley's leftist policies and her online admiration of Gavin Newsom and Joe Biden are out of touch with her conservative district. Assembly Member Diane Dixon brings back common sense and local vision. Dixon will win back the majority on the Orange County Board of Supervisors and protect Orange County.”
It is extremely rare for the Republican party to jump behind a single candidate this early in an election season, a testament to Diane Dixon’s viability as a candidate. The endorsement sends a strong message that Republicans are focused and united in the battle for a Republican majority on the Board of Supervisors.
The 5th District is currently represented by Democrat Katrina Foley and includes the cities of Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Dana Point, a portion of Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Newport Beach, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, as well as the unincorporated areas of Coto De Caza, Emerald Bay, Ladera Ranch, Las Flores, Rancho Mission Viejo, Stonecliffe and Wagon Wheel.
Diane Dixon spent 40 years in the private sector as a business executive before being elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 2014, where she served two terms as Mayor. She was elected to the State Assembly in 2022 and overwhelmingly reelected in 2024. She recently received an “A” rating from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association for her efforts on behalf of taxpayers.

Newport Beach, Calif. – Today, Assemblywoman Diane Dixon announced that she has received the endorsements of both Senator Tony Strickland and Assemblywoman Laurie Davies for the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Both Strickland and Davies represent major portions of the 5th Supervisorial District of which Dixon is seeking election to in 2026.
“Orange County is facing an uncertain future because of a failure of leadership. I’m supporting Diane Dixon because I need someone at the local level who will fight alongside me as I work to undo the destructive polices that have plagued our area for far too long. We need someone who will stand up and embrace change, not be a rubber stamp to the liberal policies of Sacramento. Diane Dixon will be an ally at the local level to bring those changes. I look forward to working with her as Supervisor.”
Senator Tony Strickland, 36th District
"Diane Dixon is the right person to be our next Supervisor. Diane Dixon has done an exemplary job as the Mayor of her city and has delivered as a State Representative. We need a change of direction at the county level to combat the public safety and homeless issues we are facing. Diane will bring a fresh perspective to the Board and that is very valuable."
Assemblywoman Laurie Davies, 74th District

NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- Assemblywoman Diane Dixon announced today that she will run for the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2026, taking on incumbent Katrina Foley in the 5th District.
“I have always believed that the government closest to the people is the best government, the one most likely to serve the people’s needs without abusing their pocketbooks,” said Dixon. “On a daily basis the Board of Supervisors has more direct impact on the lives of Orange County’s citizens than does the State Legislature. That’s where I believe I can do the most good.”
As a Supervisor, Dixon vows to fight government corruption, support public safety and protect taxpayers.
“Orange County has suffered from far too many corruption scandals in recent years and we have seen millions of tax dollars meant to help people, diverted for personal use or to advance personal agendas,” said Dixon. “We need to clean up county government and demand accountability.
“My opponent, Katrina Foley, ran on a platform of reducing homelessness and fighting crime, yet homelessness and crime are both higher today than when she took office. It’s time for a new approach and new ideas,” Dixon said.
